Mortal Kombat is one of the most popular arcade games of all time. Its over the top violence and gruesome fatalities spawned endless controversy. The digital sprites the game used for the characters were revolutionary compared to the hand drawn animation that was standard in games at the time. Building on the success of the first game, the Mortal Kombat world is truly huge, spanning 17 games, 3 films and 2 TV shows. True fans can bring the characters out of the game and into the meatspace with detailed action figures.
A POTPOURI OF CHARACTERS
Some of the more popular action figures are:
Johnny Cage
Johnny Cage is a Hollywood actor, and is out to prove his fighting skills. Introduced in the original game, he is also one of the most featured characters.
Liu Kang
Perhaps the most famous character of all is Liu Kang, another character who debuted in the original game. A follower of the Shaolin White Lotus society, Liu Kang is the closest thing to a hero in the series.
Kung Lao
A former Shaolin monk, Kung Lao is the most outspoken pacifist of the Earthrealm warriors. His trademark is his razor-rimmed hat, which he can employ quite powerfully and effectively in combat.
Goro
A 2,000 year old half human dragon Goro remained undefeated for over 500 years. He won the title of Grand Champion by defeating Kung Lao, a Shaolin fighting monk. With four arms and the same number of toes, Goro is frightening to behold.
Sub-Zero
Icy in nature and in power, Sub-Zero was formerly a cold-blooded assassin. Now a wraith after being reincarnated in the Neatherrealm, Sub-Zero is the very incarnation of evil. He appeared as a fighter in all of the first seven main fighting Mortal Kombat games, in one form or another.
Scorpion
Scorpion, formerly a human ninja assassin, now deceased and a hell-spawned specter clad in black and yellow. In the original game, both scorpion and Sub-Zero shared the same character model, the only difference being their coloring.
