Transformers Movie Toys - Blackout Action Figure

The first Transformers movie took a lot of fans by surprise with its re-imagining of established Tranformers characters that many fans had grown up with for many years. The choice of Transformers characters that showed up in the movie was a bit erratic, especially on the part of the Decepticons.

While the Autobots were immediately recognizable, the Decepticons featured some lesser known characters, such as Blackout. Blackout was the first Transformer audiences got a look at during the start of the movie, and the character looked immense on screen. The Transformers Blackout toy was released along with the film, and here's a look at that toy.

Transformers toys have long since been known for the ingenuity of their design, but due to the level of complexity shown in each robot in the movie, Hasbro had to simplify the design of the toys a little.

The main difference between the onscreen Blackout and the toy version is that the toy is missing the arm mounted guns, but this is made up for with shoulder mounted missiles. The figure looks immense when you check out the Voyager Class figure. This one comes boxed in a window display package and has a great level of detail despite the limitations of the design.

The helicopter mode of this Transformers Blackout toy is pretty much what you se on the screen in the movie itself, and the makers have done what they could to ensure the robot looked as close to the CG model as it could.

The outcome is about as good as it gets with action figures. Blackout is easy to transform and features a small Scorponok figure that can be stored in Blackout when in vehicle mode. A small version of the Blackout figure was also released alongside this one, but this 3 inch version features only limited detail and a very simple transformation cycle.

On the Voyager Class Transformers Blackout figure, you are able to remove the helicopter blades and attach them to Blackout's arm as a weapon, as seen in the movie itself!

Much like the rest of the Transformers movie toys, the Blackout figure is a good quality approximation of the character it is based on, and does look fantastic even though it isn't 100 percent the likeness from the films.

Transformers Movie Toys - Bumblebee Action Figure

In both the first Transformers movie and its sequel Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen, Bumblebee has secured his place in the hearts of movie fans everywhere as their favourite Transformer.

He has always been popular with Transformers fans, dating right back to the original cartoon in the 1980s and the 1986 animated movie, but now, with the leaps in special effects technology he has been brought to life in a manner that is frankly astonishing.

You may have issues with the Transformers live action films and their slapdash logic and multiple bloopers in continuity and plotting, but as pure spectacle they are brilliant.

The character of Bumblebee is prominent in both films, and as such the call for Bumblebee toys is huge with fans. Thankfully, there are several kinds available to choose from.

Both movies brought regular sized action figures of the character to the market, as well as larger and smaller versions that were suitable for collectors or younger children respectively.

With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a hugely popular Bumblebee voice changer was also added to the range of Bumblebee toys available, which proved to be a big hit with kids everywhere.

There are issues with the Bumblebee toys though, the main one being that the toys, for the most part, look very different to the character as he appears on the big screen. Hasbro have done their best with all of the figures to make the toys resemble the character, but the CG model used in the movies was so very complicated that it would be nigh on impossible to make an exact replica of it in toy form.

Mainly the difference is around the legs of each toy, which have had to be modified in order for the Transformers Bumblebee toy to transform into its vehicle mode. While they may not perfectly match the character, they do capture the essence.

In addition to figures and helmets, there have been replica Bumblebee costumes and even high quality models of his car form.

The most impressive one has been the 'Ultimate Bumblebee' toy, of which there is a version for both films. This large scale toy has all manner of interactive features, MP3 capabilities, sophisticated transformation technology and 45 different audio samples.

It's pricey, but more than worth the money. That one really is the best Transformers Bumblebee toy available, and it is easy to see why.

Bumblebee will surely remain the favourite Transformers character for many fans, and will continue to be with the third film and beyond!

Your Passion and Becoming a 7 Figure Earner

Have you ever wondered why some people always are at the top of the list of winners? If you follow these individuals, you would find them doing the same things other far less successful people are doing. The 7 figure earner adds an invisible ingredient to the mix. What is it? It's PASSION!

Passion is defined as a strong emotion or feeling. What causes you to take action? Passion is you being you. Passion is you following your heart. When what you do is in line with who you are, You will gain energy, focus, and satisfaction.

The big question is how do you harness this invisible internal force and apply it to your business? Many authors and mentors have developed their own definitions, explanations, and methods to bring out the best in those under their guidance. The way to find out how to harness your personal passion is to study those times when you felt passionate for the things you were doing. Ask yourself why you were on fire with passion at those moments.

I love to coach others to success. I get passionate when I see new students conquer their fears, gain skills, and have their first small victories. These small daily victories lead step by step to the accomplishing of larger goals.

It has often been said that successful people are willing to do the things that unsuccessful people would not do. I have found this to be true. You must have passion to become a 7-Figure Earner.

Here are 7 things you need to know about those leaders with a 7-Figure mindset. They possess the following:

1. Personal inspiration. They know why they continually take action!
2. Focus on the outcome. They keep the end goal in sight!
3. Take action and get in the game. Get going even before you understand it all.
4. They are committed for the long term.
5. They continually study their craft.
6. They have a game plan. Short term and long term goals keep you focused.
7. Trade procrastination for Passionate Focused Action.

If you commit to this list, you will be on your way to the proper mindset that will lead you to the top. Most people give up too early. Give yourself enough runway to take off. What ever you are pursuing, business or personal, you are more likely to achieve it if you apply Passion!

What is a Variant Or Chase Action Figure?

Do you know what a variant figure is?

A chase figure?

What's the difference between a Super Chase figure and an Exclusive figure?

Not sure?

Whether your new to collecting or been collecting for a while it's important to know the difference.

These days there are more and more names being given to the different levels of rarity when talking about figures as well as the grading of figures (I cover grading in another article). As a result it is becoming increasing difficult to know what is available, not only that, but to make matters more difficult some companies are very secretive about exactly what is available.

So let me try and explain for you what the most common terms used mean, but it can get a little complicated at times.

Why do you need to know?

Even if you're a casual collector it's important you know the difference so that you recognize an important or valuable figure when you see it. After all, would you want to swap out that $100 James LeBron Variant figure? or that $80 Dan Mariano series 19 Chase figure?

Or maybe you'll miss an exclusive figure up on eBay or some other auction site for only few bucks.

OK, ready....

First we have the basic or:

A Regular Figure

A regular figure is just that. It is the most common figure in a set or series. It is your bog basic standard figure. This will be the same as the figure pictured on the box, shown in magazines or seen on the TV ads.

They are the mass produced figures and end up in the local Wal-mart store. Generally the quantities made are unknown and often new "runs" will be produced if they sell out and demand is sufficient.

A Limited Figure or Series

A limited figure or Series is one that has been produced to a limited quantity or production run. A limited release series of figures may have both regular and chase figures available within the production run but the availability and quantities is generally known.

Often the manufacturer will number the individual figures on the base, e.g. 233/10,000 (number 233 of 10,000 produced), or issue a certificate of authenticity.

A Chase Figure

A Chase figure is a different version of one or more of the regular figures within a series or set.

This variation maybe something as small as the color of the eyes, as in Tiffany from the Spawn Series 30 release, or Sarah O'Connor from T3: Rise of the Machines where the chase figure had no cap and windswept hair, or a different color uniform, shirt etc.

A chase figure is usually an intentional and planned figure that is usually publicized before its release.

The availability or rarity of these figures is also generally known with a quoted ratio of its availability compared to a regular figure given.

For example a case of figures will normally contain 12 or 24 figures with maybe one chase figure in each case (a ratio of 1:24).Therefore the greater the ratio the higher the rarity and therefore its value. A figure with a 1:48 ratio is therefore rarer than one with a 2:24 ratio.

The term "chase" comes from the fact that diehard collectors will often search out these figures to add to their collections, therefore literally "chasing" them out.

A Variant Figure

A variant figure is very similar to a chase figure but a variant figure is usually an unexpected variation on the figure or in the set.

Generally variant figures aren't publicized before their "discovery". A variant figure is usually considered rare than a chase figure as the variation is often due to an unplanned change during production.

A variation often occurs during the production of a licensed line when the licensee decides they don't like something on a figure and production has to be stopped to make the change.

A recent example of this is the Baseball Series 18 set that has two version of Mariano Rivera. The first figure, produced in very small quantities, has the full version of the glass player's entrance door but because this was found to be too big and bulky for the packaging the regular figure only has the door section.

The main difference between a chase figure and a variant figure is that a chase figure is planned and intentional whereas a variant figure isn't.

Ok, with me so far?

This is where it begins to get complicated.

A Chase Variant Figure

A chase variant figure is exactly that.

It is a chase figure that also has an unintentional variation.

A good example of this the McFarlane's NFL Series 6 Emmitt Smith figure.

The regular figure came with a white jersey but the chase figure a red jersey.

However the chase figure was intended to have white gloves but there was a variant that had red gloves, so the figure with a red jersey and red gloves was the chase variant figure.

OK, got that?

Sure?

Because it gets worse...

There were also variants of the regular figure with red gloves instead of white AND there was also a SECOND chase figure available!!

So recapping this series had:

A regular Emmitt Smith figure (with white jersey), a variant regular figure *with a white jersey and red gloves), a chase figure (red jersey, white gloves), and a variant chase figure (red jersey and red gloves)!

This example is a very unusual case and it is very rare to have this number of variation of the same figure in one series, but...

Super Chase

A Super Chase figure is an intentional variation, like a chase figure, but produced in very small quantities therefore making it both a lot more difficult to find and more valuable.

Instead of one figure per case it maybe one per container.

Surprise Chase

A surprise chase figure is an unplanned addition to a series that usually hasn't been publicized and isn't included on the official checklists.

But there is a certain amount of debate however as to whether these truly are chase figures as often they have the same production run as a regular figure but are just last minute addition to the series.

A prime example is the Trevor Hoffman figure in McFarlane's MLB Series 18 Baseball figures. The problem with these figures again is because there generally isn't any further information on their production run nobody really knows which are a chase figures or regular figures.

My best suggestion here is to keep an eye on the auction sites, online stores and forums. By listening to what others are saying and gaging the quantities and prices available you should get a reasonable idea whether the figure is a true "chase" figure or just a late addition to the set as a regular figure.

An Error Figure

An error figure is completely unintentional and often passes through the normal quality control checks unnoticed, for whatever reason.

As a result these are not publicized in anyway until "found". Often even the manufacturer will not be aware of their existence until the error comes to light. The error could be missing paint, or the wrong color used somewhere on the figure. It maybe something missing accessory or ...

An error figure is just that, an error, a mistake, unintentional and unknown until found.

This makes them extremely rare and often very valuable. An error figure is often a "one off" or in very low numbers and are therefore probably the rarest and most sought after.

Very rarely the error is intentional and "planted" by a member of the production team. A famous incident where this happened is the infamous "C3 P0" trading card from the original 1977 series of Star Wars bubble gum cards where, on some, C3P0 was given a bit of male antinomy. This card now error card can now exchanges hands for $1000's.

An Exclusive Figure

An exclusive figure, unlike all the others mentioned, is not part of a regular series or release and is NOT distributed through the normal channels, distributors or retailers.

An exclusive figure is one that has been especially commissioned by a company, business, or team for their own promotional uses.

There are generally four different types of exclusive figures:

Distributor/Retailer Exclusive-Toys R Us have commissioned many exclusive McFarlane releases including the NFL 3 packs and usually the first series of baseball figures at the start of each new season. Diamond Comic distributors also often carry exclusive figures that are only available to retailers through their distribution network.

Many NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB teams have commissioned special event exclusives or stadium giveaways over the years as well.

An Event Exclusive- This type of figure is usually unplanned and released outside of the normal release schedule usually to "celebrate" an important event, a good example of this is the Bond 756 figure, the annual Fan fest exclusives or a Hall of Fame exclusive.

A Stadium Giveaway/Promotion- This is a figure usually commissioned by a team or organization to giveaway at one of their games or for a special event. This type of figure is generally not available anywhere else and has different packaging, often dated when and where it was given away, and has a separate checklist.

Collectors Club figure- These figures are only available through McFarlanes online Collectors Club, which is free to join.

And that's it.

I hope you found this short guide helpful and I look forward to hearing from you.

Who Produced the First Battlestar Galactica Figure?

Battlestar Galactica Quote:

"There are those who believe...

that life here...

began out there.

Far across the universe. With tribes of humans...

who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians...

or the Toltecs...

or the Mayans...

that they may have been the architects of the Great Pyramids...

or the lost civilizations of Lemuria...

or Atlantis...

Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man...

who even now fight to survive...

somewhere beyond the heavens."

In 1977 a new era in cinematic history began with the opening of Star Wars. The swashbuckling heroes of the past were transported from their ocean faring ships into the vast oceans of space.

One of the most popular sci-fi programs to follow and capitalize on this new trend was Battlestar Galactica.

Battlestar Galactica was a story of betrayal, heroism, love and courage.

A story of survival against all odds.

The story of one species fight for survival, against the merciless onslaught of another.

The story began in a distant part of the universe where a series of planets, known as the 12 Colonies, was home to a civilization of humans.

The Colonies had been at war with the cybernetic race known as the Cylons for many years and at last it seemed like the war was about to come to an end as a Peace Conference was held to sign a new treaty between the two adversaries.

But the colonies were ambushed by the Cylons, helped by a the traitor Baltar, in a surprise attack that laid waste to all the planets and all but wiped out their population and the human race.

Fleeing the colonies in any spacecraft they could find the few human survivors sought refuge in space. Of all the Colonial Fleet an all the military ships only the Battlestar Galactica survived the attack to lead the survivors in the search for a new home and the mythical planet "Earth".

Battlestar Galatica boasted similar effects to those seen in Star Wars, probably because John Dykstra head of special effects on the Star Wars movie, now worked as producer on the show (an argument that eventually ended up in court).

But, despite its success, the show was cancelled in 1980. Richard Hatch tried to re-launch the series in 1998, which ultimately failed, but Universal Television was set on a new mini series and finally made in 2004 the new re-imaged Battlestar Galactica had it's TV debut.

The success of the new series has since led to a resurgence of interest in the original Battlestar Galactica figures and merchandising, particularly the vintage Mattel Battlestar Galactica figures, which can still be found at very reasonable prices.

The original line of Battlestar Galactica figures was first released in 1978 and stood approximately 3 3/4 inches in height with very limited articulation. At the time Mattel had high hopes for these figures and had planned many different figures as well as playsets and vehicles but two series were ever made it in to stores.

.

These figures, even by 1978 standards, were fairly crude and bore little resemblance to the characters they were supposed to portray unlike Hasbro's Star Wars figures, even Kenner's figures (which I'm not a huge fan of) were generally better.

Series one consisted of Starbuck, Adama, Daggit (the robot dog)*,  a Cylon Centurion (Silver), Ovion (a fly-like alien) and the Imperious Leader. These figures are generally easy to find and can be acquired for a very reasonable prices, so shop around before committing yourself to buying any.

Series two was released in 1979 and included a Gold Cylon Commander with a gun, Lucifer, Boray (a pig headed creature) with a club, Baltar with a gun and Daggit (tan)*.

*Note: There were two different colored versions of Daggit, the robotic dog, a brown Daggit in series 1 and a tanned Daggit in series 2.

The second series seems to be much more difficult to find and as a result they tend to be more expensive, although still very reasonably priced.

It's also worth noting also that the weapons are generally a lot harder to find and are often absent from the figures.

As well selling these in their regular blister packs Mattel also released a six figure and four figure gift pack.

Mattel also released two 12-inch figures in 1979, a Colonial Warrior and a Cylon Centurion.

The Colonial Warrior was based on the original mold from Major Matt Mason's Captain Laser figure and came with a laser beam, scanner device and Arial, the Cylon Centurion figure had the added bonus of a manually operated moving red eye and glowing chest. Both figures also had battery operated light up weapons.

These figures are extremely hard to find now, especially in mint condition complete with their box and weapons and are worthwhile looking out for.

In 1980 Mattel introduced a limited edition mail away offer featuring a Gold Cylon Centurion Leader but in order to get this figure you had to send four proofs of purchase from any four of the six figures in the series.

Mattel had also planned to release a series of Battlestar Galactica vehicles which were advertised in their catalog and prototypes were displayed at the New York Toy Fair in 1979.

The Colonial Landram was released in Canada and a Viper Launch Station was also produced but  the Holy Grail of them all must be The Battlestar Galactica Command Ship which proved to be far too ambitious and costly at the time and was cancelled.

BUT a prototype of this does exist and was sold for just over $5000 on eBay in 2004!

What is an Urban Vinyl Figure?

The Urban Vinyl movement is an offshoot of the hip hop and youth-oriented popular culture. It often depicts real-life figures from Asian and American culture, particularly artists who perform in a hip-hop or related styles.

Noteworthy examples are Lau's depiction of the LMF rappers from Hong Kong, and figures based on the members of the virtual electronic band Gorillaz, produced by Jamie Hewlett and made by Kidrobot.

Urban vinyl is a type of designer toy, featuring action figures in particular, which are usually made of vinyl.

Although the term is sometimes used interchangeably with the term designer toy, it is more accurately used as a modifier: not all designer toys can be considered urban vinyl, while urban vinyl figures are necessarily designer toys, by virtue of the way in which they are produced.

Like designer toys in general, urban vinyl figures feature original designs, small production numbers, and are highly sought-after by collectors, predominantly adults.

The action figures are designed by artists and designers and the trend is erasing the boundaries between low culture and high art.

Unlike typical toys like Barbies or Hot Wheels, which are mass produced, Urban Vinyl Toys are sold in limited runs, often as low as 500 to 2,000 pieces, increasing the demand and the sense that these are original and unique pieces of art.

This is an important distinction and one of the differentiating characteristics of these Urban Vinyl's or designer "toys". They are often considered works of art rather than collectible toys.

These toys are like Pop Art or sculptures, Urban Vinyl toy seller Paul Budnitz said in a recent interview with The Sacramento Bee. "The canvas happens to be a toy. "

It was Kidirobot owner Paul Budnitz who introduced the American public to the Urban Vinyl trend that took Asia by storm in the late 1990's.

Kidrobot was on the cutting edge of this trend, and in February 2002 became the first website in the United States to deal exclusively in these designer toys

Urban vinyl toys are created by leading artists, graffiti artists, fashion designers, illustrators and more, and transcend the category of "toy" to become collectible art in their own right.

Urban Vinyl appears to be a movement of independent toy manufacturers and artists producing uniquely designed original toys. Some of the hottest urban toy artists or (designer vinyl artists) have their roots in 2-D art or where former graffiti artists and in many cases you can purchase a print to go along with your vinyl toy.

In essence what has happened is a new canvas has been given to artists. The mold has been broken and the pieces are scattering everywhere. Urban Vinyl is leading the charge in what has been dubbed the Designer Toy movement.

Companies like StrangeCo, Achy Breaky, Critter Box, and Friends with You produce are leading this new movement and create original Urban Vinyl and Designer Toys in many different flavors.

This is an important factor as not everyone can relate to a Lau, because they may not live the lifestyle depicted but now there is so many variation and different themes and creations that it's likely you'll find an artist and toy that will appeal to your taste.

Whether toy or collectible item, some of the figures have sold on websites, stores or auctions for as much as $10,000.

This acts as an indication of the volcanic popularity that Urban Vinyl figures and designer toys are enjoying and the trend doesn't seem to be relenting despite the current recession fears.

One of the more popular Urban Vinyl figures currently is the Kidirobot Dunny figure which is a collaboration between Budnitz and designer Tristan Eaton.

With minimalist features and a round rabbit-like shape, Dunny lends itself easily to custom design. Kidrobot gave out the Dunny figure to more than fifty artists to modify according to their own artistic voice.

The artistically modified, one of a kind Dunny creations, were featured in their own exhibition in New York from May 17-July 17 2004, where the work of leading illustrators, fine artists, graphic artists and animation experts from Dreamworks Animation Studios was also on display.

Although the Urban Vinyl action figure, commonly referred to as a VCD (Vinyl Collectible Doll), has been around since the early 90's it is only over the last few years that it has started to spill over into the mainstream collectors market.

These figures are highly collectible and limited and have been embraced by the art community and as a result have been unavailable to the mainstream action figure market.

However with more and more Urban Vinyl's finding there way onto eBay and the increased number of manufacturers it looks likely that there popularity will continue to grow for the unforeseeable future.

Your Guide to Finding the Perfect Metal Gear Solid Figure

If you are a big fan of PlayStation's Metal Gear Solid action game, then you are in good company. Metal Gear Solid is a wildly popular stealth action video game originating in Japan. The game features cinematic scenes created using outstanding graphics and voice acting. This game is given high acclaims by critics, often being called one of the most well received and popular games ever created. The game has produced several sequels and spin-offs and its legendary character, Solid Snake, is the protagonist that is on missions to destroy.

Many fans of the game have taken up collecting figurines. Besides just Solid Snake, you can easily locate a Liquid Snake top metal gear solid figure to get a collection off to a good start. As you know, Liquid Snake is the leader of FoxHound and the key antagonist of the game. Members of FoxHound include Revolver Ocelot, Vulcan Raven, Psycho Mantis and Decoy Octopus - the master of disguise. These would make ideal starter figurines as well and you can generally find them quite readily on collector websites, as well as on auction sites.

As with any collection, it is best to start by collecting the easier to find figures. As you know the game is over two decades old and there have been figures made for much of that time. Some of the older figures, if you are lucky, can be found laying around in second hand stores. If you happen to live in a large city, then by all means take a Saturday and wander through these stores. Who knows? You may find a jackpot hidden away on a toy shelf or in a box tucked into a corner. If you are not that ambitious, then you would probably prefer to hunt for your metal gear solid figure from the comfort of your own home.

Whenever you are searching online for specific items, it is a good idea to jot down the estimated prices of the figures you are interested in so that you do not pay a higher amount than the correct value of the figure. If you want a highly sought after figure, consider paying $200 and pick up something like the latest version of Naked Snake - the cold war version hero. You can get this brand new figure, in-box for $200 and it would make the ultimate addition to a collection, without a doubt! The details are amazing, right down to facial features, his eye patch and ankle holster.

As with any popular series, the figures are sure to increase with value as the years pass. It is therefore important that you purchase figures for your collection that are in pristine condition and preferably with the original packaging included. There are stores online that have a great supply of brand new figurines, so make sure you have a look before purchasing something second-hand. If for any reason in the future you decide to sell your collection, you will surely get more money for a top quality, un-used metal gear solid figure.

Sarah Palin, Hockey Mom, Super Hero, Action Figure

Whether you like her politics or not, Sarah Palin is quite a story. She is the governor of Alaska and the Republican vice presidential nominee in the 2008 presidential election. She was on the Wasilla, Alaska city council from 1992 to 1996 and mayor from 1996 to 2002.

She chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from 2003 to 2004. She was elected governor of Alaska in November 2006, becoming the first woman and the youngest person to hold the position in Alaska.

All that is very impressive but now she has become something she can be really proud of. That's right Sarah Palin has been immortalized with her own action figure.

Move over Obama and McCain posters and campaign buttons. This may be even bigger than the "I like Ike" campaign button.
